  1. This is one of my favorite things about Honors: field trips! I love going with my EQ class to different museums. I had never been to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman at OU before. I really enjoyed the different types of art they had, as well as just the architecture of the building. That was pretty cool! It was neat to hear about how the architect was specifically using certain materials in certain ways in order to reflect on Oklahoma's nature, but in a modern way. Too bad we did not have a longer time there! But it's always nice to have a day in Norman. As for the Mabee-Gerrer Museum at St. Greg's in Shawnee, I've been there many times before since that is my hometown, but not in a while. I like going back and getting to see the same paints and sculptures and artifacts, but the temporary display is what I found a connection with this time! Michi Susan had her work temporarily displayed at Mabee-Gerrer when we visited. She was born in Japan, married an American soldier, and moved to Oklahoma. This is exactly how my grandmother, my dad's mom, came to America as well. For me, a connection like this is rare! So, I really enjoyed getting to read Susan's story and see her work.

  2. Before the trip, I had neither visited the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman nor the Mabee-Gerrer Museum at St. Greg's in Shawnee,in fact, I had not even been aware of their existence. Had I not been in Honors, I most like would have never gotten to tour either museum, or at least not until much further down the road. I am glad that I was given the opportunity to see both. -SKC

  3. During the drive to Norman, I was able to have a lot of fun trying to stay awake. After the trip to Norman, I was too awake to fall asleep. In Norman, we were able to visit the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which had a lot of amazing pieces of art in it. One particular part of the art exhibits, was when we were able to view some manuscripts of the Shahnameh. My section of EQ2 was able to work with the manuscripts and we even did individual projects over certain sections of it. We were only able to do this with the help of our amazing Professor Chubb, and it was a pleasure to be able to work on a project that dealt with an important part of history. After we left Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, we went to the Mabee-Gerrer Museum at St. Greg's in Shawnee. It was at this museum that I was able to see my first shrunken head and my first mummies. That alone made the trip worthwhile, and it even makes me wish to go back even to this day, just to see some mummies. ~Nathaniel Starry
